Changing the Narrative
Brown Issues engages in narrative change work because we believe shifting perceptions can shape culture, which in turn influences policy.
We have cultivated one of the most influential social media platforms with over 450,000 followers. Through our Instagram, we actively dismantle harmful stereotypes and position Latino youth as the architects of their own stories.
This platform is not just a medium for sharing content–it’s a powerful tool for healing and cultural organizing. Our goal is to transform passive observers into active participants, driving forward a movement that celebrates diverse cultural identities and inspires civic leadership.
To drive real change, we must create spaces that energize, inspire, and celebrate our culture. Belonging is the foundation of transformation—without it, advocacy falls short.
At Brown Issues, we cultivate and activate our collective voices to take control of our narrative and break the cycle of internalizing harmful rhetoric.
Here’s how we do it:
1. Communications and Narrative Change
Brown Issues is dedicated to reshaping the narrative surrounding Latino youth by taking control of how our stories are told. Through strategic communication efforts, we challenge harmful stereotypes and shift perceptions on a national scale.
2. Cultural & Civic Events
We create spaces that bring people together to celebrate, inspire, and collectively take action through dynamic events like pop-ups, voter block parties, and cultural festivals, reinforcing identity and community.
3. Artivism
Art is essential in shaping a just and vibrant future. We blend creativity with activism through art shows, murals, and poetry nights, giving youth the space to share their stories, challenge injustices, and reimagine the world. Art heals, unites, and drives change.
